The Zillertal Alps or Aurine Alps are a massif in the central eastern Alps. They rise between Austria and Italy. They lie between the Ziller high valley in the north and the Valle Aurina in the south, which gives them their names on either side of the border.
The massif is surrounded by the Kitzbühel Alps to the north, the Hohe Tauern to the east, the Dolomites to the south, the Sarntal Alps to the southwest, the Stubai Alps to the west and the Tux Alps to the northwest.
The Gran Pilastro is the highest point of the massif.
The high mountain region of the Italian Zillertal Alps Nature Park ranges in altitude from 1,000 to 3,500 metres and covers an area of 422 square kilometres, alternating between glacier-ridden trough valleys and dense forests. Its fauna and flora form its diverse alpine landscape. The nature park extends from the alpine pastures to the peaks of the 85 glaciers.
